Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
These are some of the more common questions that clients ask. Please feel free to email or to call with any specific questions or concerns! Be direct. All questions are welcome, even the “odd” ones (especially the odd ones!) Things usually only seem odd or impossible until we have voiced them to a broadly experienced practitioner.
General
Questions
I don’t think hypnotherapy is for me. I am only interested in brainspotting (or EFT, or NLP). Can my session be focused on a modality that I choose?
Of course! Your session is yours. Time will always be spent to listen deeply to what you are experiencing, thinking, and wanting. And, time will always be spent to make sure that you understand and have chosen the approach taken.
Are there any books that you recommend?
Absolutely! This is a short list of an ever-growing list of respected resources. The bibliographies in each might be a good next step for deeper exploration of specific topics.
- Quantum Consciousness by Peter Smith
- The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van Der Kolk, M.D.
- Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe by Robert Lanza, M.D.
- The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Powers of Consciousness, Matter, & Miracles by Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.

I would like to schedule a specialized group session for my organization/personal circle. How do I get in touch to discuss that?
Kristin is particularly adept at designing and leading group sessions with special areas of focus. Possibilities range from 2-hour sessions to intensive multi-day workshops. Simply use the “Contact Us” page at the bottom to submit an inquiry. Include as much detail as possible.
Are all of the modalities just as effective via Zoom as in-person?
Yes! In fact, most of Kristin’s clients who began as in-person clients, later enjoy the ease of logging in to sessions via Zoom. But, the choice is yours! If you have specific concerns about this, feel free to schedule a 15 minute (no charge) telephone conversation with Kristin.
I would like to schedule a series of appointments. Is there a recommended number of appointments, or a recommended amount of time between appointments?
Most practitioners recommend allowing a week between sessions, but you know yourself best. If you feel that what you are working on will respond rapidly, feel free to schedule back-to-back sessions. But, it is generally best to allow yourself at least a few days’ time to process and to integrate changes.
Similarly, the number of sessions you choose to have will depend on what you are working on. Everyone is different, and every concern is different. Oftentimes, we think we are addressing a very complex concern, only to find that it dissolves easily in just one session, along with other stressors and concerns! Typically, this is more the case for clients already experienced with hypnotherapy, but it is certainly possible for anyone.
It is Kristin’s general recommendation to plan on having about three sessions. But, of course, we will discuss your unique concerns, experience, and goals, and we will develop an individualized plan for supporting your progress, responding to the gains from each session. You are welcome to schedule one session at a time, or to go ahead and book a series of appointments that fit into your scheduling needs.
If you think that your unique concerns and goals require sessions longer than 2 hours, this can be specially arranged on a case-by-case basis. There are types of Regression work, for example, in which a longer session might be beneficial.
Hypnotherapy
Questions
What is a hypnotherapy session like?
We will always spend some time to discover what you are working towards, and to discuss the various approaches that could be taken. The primary thing to know is that you, the client, are always in control of your experience. You remain fully aware, but simply in a light state of trance that is actually not unfamiliar. In fact, we tend to naturally move in and out of this very state of consciousness each day. The most common time to experience this state of consciousness is in the moments just before falling asleep. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis! The hypnotherapist is a skilled guide.
It is in this “non-ordinary” state of consciousness that other parts of our mind can be accessed. Simply put, we are able to bypass the thinking mind, and engage with the parts that might be “running programming” in the background, oftentimes quite powerfully.
Each session is very unique to the person. And, each approach can be very different. Some people are more visual that others in general, while others are more auditory or experience things through other senses or representational systems. In hypnotic trance, clients may experience insights and shifts through these same ways, or in unexpected ways. Many people experience things through metaphor.
Typically, the overall experience is very relaxing and balancing. Time is spent at the end to help you to integrate the new insights and shifts.
How should I prepare for a hypnotherapy session?
It is recommended to be well hydrated, and to have eaten within the last few hours. This, only so that you are not distracted by thirst or hunger during your hypnotherapy session. Similarly, you will want to dress comfortably so that you are not distracted by any clothing or shoe discomfort.
Please arrive to your session in a clear state of mind. That is, refrain from alcohol or non-prescribed mind-altering substances prior to your appointment. Place your phone on silent, and remove any wearable devices that may alert you to calls or other activity. Some clients also like to have a notepad to write on.
If possible in your schedule, allow yourself some time after the session. Recognize that you may need time to integrate new insights and shifts, and that if you have to rush off to another engagement right after the session, it could be an abrupt gear change for you.
Be comfortable. Be yourself. Come as you are. You do not have to have it all figured out before your appointment! (That’s probably why you’re coming in the first place. All the “thinking” didn’t quite get to the place you are aiming at.) Just show up and be real. That’s how this works.
I am concerned that I won’t be able to be hypnotized. What can you say about that?
All hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis. In fact, as mentioned above, we tend to naturally move in and out of this very state of consciousness each day. The most common time to experience this state of consciousness is in the moments just before falling asleep.
The hypnotherapist is a skilled guide. As in any field, there are a variety of tools, approaches, and techniques. It is a matter of finding the right one for each client. It’s just as simple as that.
Another perspective is to consider that we are all already hypnotized around many things. Oftentimes, when we experience negative patterns, behaviors, thoughts, or feelings in response to certain stimuli, it is actually an imprinted response being “triggered”. Some people describe this as life’s “programming”, and that when we engage in hypnotherapy we are actually “de-hypnotizing” ourselves, returning to our natural balanced state.
What should I do after a hypnotherapy session?
Allowing yourself some time to process and integrate is wise. We all have daily responsibilities that can’t wait, but if you can allow yourself at least a half hour after your session before asking a lot of yourself, you will probably be glad to have the time.
Journaling is highly recommended, journaling in any form, be it in written or other artistic form. More insights tend to come into awareness as we externally process in this way. It is also nice to have a record of insights and experiences, particularly if you have multiple sessions.
Someone mentioned the benefit of Past Life Regression Therapy, but I do not believe in past lives. What can you say about that?
It is not necessary for you to believe in past lives in order to benefit from past life regression. In fact, one of the many theories about past lives is that our subconscious mind works through metaphor and story, offering alternate experiences in order to process certain things.
It is not the goal of the practitioner to persuade the client towards any particular belief system. All belief systems are honored and respected in this practice. The client’s goals for personal development are the practitioner’s concern.
Reiki
Questions
What is a reiki session like?
Most clients report that receiving reiki is a very relaxing and sublime experience. The specific experience varies with the individual, though, and can be different each time, even for the same person. Reiki flows easily, and always in the way that is needed.
The client remains fully clothed, and lays on a table similar to a massage table. If more comfortable, the client can be under a blanket for warmth. Reiki flows through the layers of fabric.
Some clients fall asleep during a Reiki session. Some experience sensations such as temperature shifts, and others report seeing colors or images. The most commonly reported experience is a greater sense of calm, and balance, comfort, and clarity.
How should I prepare for a reiki session?
Be well hydrated and have eaten within a few hours before your session so that you are not distracted by hunger or thirst. Wear comfortable clothing, and be prepared to take your shoes off.
Please arrive to your session in a clear state of mind. That is, refrain from alcohol or non-prescribed mind-altering substances prior to your appointment.
Place your phone on silent, and remove any wearable devices that may alert you to calls or other activity.
What should I do after a reiki session?
After your reiki session, hydrate, and allow yourself time to integrate the new energies.
It is advised to limit your use of electronics for the rest of the day.
I would like to learn to practice Reiki. As a Reiki Master Teacher, does Kristin offer training and attunements?
Yes. By special arrangement, Kristin provides Reiki classes for small groups, as well as attunements for already established Reiki practitioners. Simply submit an inquiry.
